Stonhard Proudly Contributes to Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial Restoration

May 24, 2024 — Atop the sweeping summit of Mount Soledad in San Diego, California, the Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial stands tall as a solemn tribute to the valor of our nation's heroes. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the iconic 30-foot concrete cross and its surrounding memorial, Stonhard is honored to have played a small but pivotal part of a significant restoration effort, contributing to the refurbishing and resealing of the memorial’s concrete base, helping ensure this landmark continues to symbolize freedom and sacrifice for future generations.

The project, initiated in early 2024, saw national construction management company Bernards collaborate with memorial staff to restore the iconic cross and its deteriorated base area. While Bernards took on the tasks of power washing and repainting the cross, Stonhard focused on fortifying the foundation below.

With the meticulous care and attention that Stonhard is renowned for, installation crews applied a polyurea-polyurethane hybrid immersion-grade lining system with an aspartic polyurethane coating. This flexible, waterproof membrane is designed for high durability, ensuring the memorial withstands environmental conditions.

From April 1 to May 16, the collective efforts of Stonhard and other dedicated contributors transformed the memorial, breathing new life into its storied history. The project was more than just a task; it was a labor of love and gratitude, with all involved offering their time and expertise to honor our nation's heroes.
