Flooring designed to protect equipment or the concrete beneath from water damage
Peace of mind with the advanced protection of a waterproof membrane. Stonhard manufactures and installs waterproof membranes for areas that require special protection against water intrusion. When we say waterproof, we mean it.
Waterproof flooring has a strong, impermeable surface (waterproof membrane) that acts as a barrier, preventing water from penetrating to the subfloor. Epoxy and urethane-based waterproofing floors protect equipment and the concrete substrate beneath it from water damage. While other types of flooring may claim to be 'waterproof' because they do not absorb water into the top layer, seams and edges may allow water to seep through and may not fully prevent water damage.
Certain areas need extra protection against water and moisture. Without this protection, repairs and replacement would be costly and unmanageable. Waterproof flooring benefits include:

Water-resistant floors can protect against common spills and splashes, but does not protect from large volumes of water and water that stands for long durations. Waterproof floors ensure no penetration of the material takes place. Products that are labeled ‘waterproof’ for residential applications, such as vinyl plank floors, are more of a buzzword than technically accurate. If a spill goes unnoticed for a time, the floor will not absorb the water and buckle, however, a leak that cannot be stopped and covers the entire floor will likely seep beneath the planks. In commercial and industrial spaces, a waterproof floor has a membrane that will prevent the water from reaching the substrate. A seamless, resinous floor with a waterproof membrane is the only option for 100% waterproof floors.
Yes, Stonhard floors are seamless which makes them more waterproof. In addition, Stonhard floors can be formulated with a waterproof membrane to prevent a significant water event from affecting the substrate or areas below the waterproof flooring. Vinyl cannot offer this protection.
Stonhard will inspect the existing flooring to determine if it can be overlayed or requires removal prior to installation. If the existing flooring is in good condition and bonded to the substrate it can be mechanically prepared to ensure the Stonhard primer and/or membrane will bond to it.
Waterproof resinous floors, such as epoxy, polyurethane, or MMA flooring are highly durable and can last as long as 10 to 30 years depending on several factors including usage and traffic, installation quality, maintenance and cleaning.
