Water Treatment Facility Seeks Durable Flooring Solution

In the United Kingdom, Avonmouth-based Wessex Water serves 2.9 million customers across southwest England. Corrosive elements in the onsite waste had attacked the concrete floor surface, leaving it pitted and uneven. A subsequent overlayment installed to combat the problem had also failed, leaving the floor in need of a proven, long-lasting solution.

Stonclad UT provides a durable, chemical-resistant, slip-resistant surface for a demanding water treatment environment.

Stonhard upgraded the Wessex Water facility with Stonclad UT and Stonchem 601 for superior chemical resistance and durability.

High-Performance Flooring Solution Delivered with Seamless Precision

Stonhard visited the Wessex Water site over a period of 18 months to test the existing finishes and structural slab. Stonhard proposed the removal of all existing finishes back down to the structural slab and the installation of a new chemical-resistant flooring system. The project included a new concrete overlay pitched to slope, new surface drainage, and a durable floor finish that would withstand movement from the facility’s 25-ton mechanical loader.

Stonhard installed polyurethane Stonclad UT, a high-impact floor that exhibits excellent abrasion, thermal shock and cycling, and chemical-resistant characteristics. The system was further reinforced with a layer of Stonchem 601, a highly cross-linked novolac epoxy lining system, to enhance its chemical-resistant properties.

"I commend them on seamless delivery with minimum disruption to the rest of the plant which remained in operation throughout.”
